Academic Assistant I - WRSC

The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, vitally connected to our local area for over 50 years. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

To provide academic assistance to students in the Writing, Reading, Speech Assistance Area of the College of DuPage. Offer orientations in classroom or online.

  • Provide writing, reading, and public speaking assistance to students in all academic disciplines taught at the College of DuPage, in person or online.
  • Provide in-class orientations on WRSA services.
  • Maintain current and relevant knowledge in subject areas and general study skills.
  • Serve as a resource to peer academic assistants and other academic assistants.
  • Develop and participate in training on related topics. Develop and compile resource materials.
Qualifications
Education
  • Associate's degree required, including English 1102 and Speech 1100 with a grade of B or higher and a GPA of 3.3.
Experience
  • Experience teaching or providing academic assistance in a related discipline preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including proficiency in spoken English required.
Working Conditions
  • Fifteen (15) to twenty (20) hours per week during academic terms only (approximately 40 weeks per year). Some evening or weekend hours may be required.
  • Up-to-date skills in relevant technologies.
  • This position is subject to a background check and education verification at the expense of the College.
