Class CharacteristicsUnder the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.
ResponsibilitiesResponsible for instructional planning, including but not limited to providing written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program, establishing positive learning expectation standards, evaluating pupils’ progress and maintaining accurate records; implementing instructional methods, applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, drawing from the range of instructional materials, participating in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques, and providing bulletin board and interest areas reflecting pupils’ current work;
exhibiting knowledge of curriculum content; participating in programs to improve student attendance; promoting anti‑vandalism; establishing reasonable rules of conduct, maintaining attendance records, encouraging student growth, ensuring fairness, initiating conferences with parents, mediating parent communication, participating in in‑service and staff meetings, coordinating field trips, working extra‑curricular activities, and utilizing community resources.
Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education. Teachers must possess at least one of the following valid teaching licenses:
Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position. Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification, contemporary teaching principles, classroom and behavior management techniques. Ability to modify instruction, cooperate with faculty, work with pupils, parents, staff, and community, and understand student patterns. Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and professional judgment.
Light work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible constantly. Must stoop occasionally, reach frequently, handle objects occasionally, talk and hear constantly, use near vision, and occasional visual acuity.
