ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – ELECTRICAL

Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks part‑time faculty to teach Electrical courses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students problem‑solve using discipline‑specific thinking strategies.
  • Designs courses that have clearly articulated learning outcomes that are student‑centered and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
  • Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and student learning outcomes.
  • Develops and designs an assessment program that includes regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.
  • Commits to engaging and improving upon behavioral commitments that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging among students.
  • Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in one’s specific academic discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology and continuously reflects on and refines their craft.
  • Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.
  • Fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.
  • Teaches in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Engineering or a related technical field and at least two industry credentials from the American Welding Society, the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC), the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS), the American Society of Quality, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers or an electrician’s license from the City of Chicago (will count as two industry credentials) or an IBEW journeyman’s card (will count as two industry credentials).
  • Or eight years of experience in manufacturing, including experience in production or industrial maintenance and at least two industry credentials from the American Welding Society, the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC), the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS), the American Society of Quality, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers or an electrician’s license from the City of Chicago (will count as two industry credentials) or an IBEW journeyman’s card (will count as two industry credentials).
  • Teaching experience at the college level preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
  • Experience with a diverse, multi‑lingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.
  • Disposition toward developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars.
  • Knowledge of Brightspace or a similar Learning Management System preferred.
  • Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Seeking candidate(s) to teach face‑to‑face course(s).
SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary: $800 – $837 – $943 per Contact Hour based on Degree. The rate paid is in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
