Job Title:
Teacher.
Location:
West Side-646 N Lawndale Avenue (Laura S Ward School). Salary Range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39.
Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required. Responsibilities include instructional planning with written lesson plans and preparation aligned to instructional objectives; establishing positive learning expectations for all pupils; evaluating pupil progress and maintaining accurate records of achievements; applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology;
selecting and utilizing a range of instructional materials; participating in developing and implementing new teaching techniques; maintaining classroom and school-wide standards of conduct; maintaining attendance records and seating charts; communicating with parents/guardians about pupil progress, attendance, and conduct; participating in in-service and professional staff meetings; coordinating or attending class field trips; contributing to extracurricular and after-school activities; utilizing community resources to support instruction.
- Education and Experience:
Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and all coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Teachers must possess at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of
Education:
Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.
- Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements, knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching, knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques.
- Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs, ability to cooperate with the school faculty and administration in program development and implementation, ability to work effectively with pupils, parents and guardians, staff members, and community representatives; ability to understand the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
- Skill in applying contemporary principles and practices of teaching; good oral and written communication skills; good interpersonal skills; sound and professional judgment.
Light work:
Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, or up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands include the ability to stoop occasionally, reach frequently, handle and finger objects occasionally, talk and hear constantly, and visual acuity.
