Overview
Job Title: Child Development Supervisor – Childrens Center – West
Location: Chicago, IL, USA
Posting Type: On-Site, Full-Time
Responsibilities- Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum for enrolled three- to five-year-old children.
- Supervise assigned interns, practicum students, volunteers, and individuals conducting research in the classroom.
- Develop and implement programs and operational procedures that meet Illinois licensing requirements and standards set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
- Plan and implement daily classroom and outdoor activities focusing on child health, safety, and development across cognitive, social, emotional, and physical domains; create lesson plans, interact with children, and document learning.
- Attend to the physical needs of children, including dressing, feeding, napping, and toileting.
- Observe and evaluate children’s developmental patterns using classroom assessment methods; adjust activities accordingly.
- Maintain daily communication with parents, including weekly classroom newsletters, parent/teacher conferences, and sharing information related to developmental screenings and assessments; provide resources/referrals as appropriate; participate in family events.
- Collaborate with team members to maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
- Engage in professional growth activities to meet licensing guidelines and NAEYC standards (20 clock hours/year).
- Train, supervise, and evaluate assigned student employees, practicum students, interns, and volunteers.
- Cooperate with research activities by assisting researchers and facilitating child participation.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
- Credentials required by Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for employment as a Child Care Worker in a licensed child care facility.
- Either:
- Bachelor's degree in child development, education, or related field with 18 semester hours directly related to child development and/or child care, including 6 hours from birth to age six; or
- Two years of experience comparable to the lower level of this series with 18 additional semester hours of related coursework.
- Knowledge of NAEYC standards and mandated state/local standards.
- Familiarity with GOLD assessment tool.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
