CHARACTERISTICS:
Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.

Responsible for instructional planning, including providing written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program, establishing positive learning expectation standards for all pupils, evaluating pupils' progress, and maintaining accurate records of achievements. Implements instructional methods, applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, drawing from a range of instructional materials, participating in new teaching techniques, and creating bulletin board interest areas reflective of pupils' work.

Exhibits knowledge of curriculum content, participates in programs to improve attendance and promote anti‑vandalism, establishes reasonable classroom and school conduct rules, maintains accurate attendance records, encourages student growth in self‑discipline and self‑concept, and initiates appropriate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and ancillary personnel. Communicates with parents on academic progress, attendance, and conduct; participates in in‑service and professional staff meetings, and may coordinate and attend field trips, extracurricular, and after‑school activities.
