Job Summary

Chicago State University (CSU) Library and Information Science (LIS) program invites applications from qualified individuals for a 100% full-time Academic Advisor position.

JOB SUMMARY

Provide academic advising and coordination of student services to holistically support the personal, educational, and professional development of graduate LIS students.

Job Description

Academic Advising (60%)

* Provide timely and accurate academic advising and support to a diverse group of graduate students pursuing LIS courses.

* Advise students holistically to support their personal, educational, and professional development, providing support on topics such as course selection, policies and procedures, academic progress, career preparation, and other processes related to academic advising.

* Make good judgments based on individual circumstances while maintaining equity, objectivity, and consistency, working within the framework of policy guidelines, referring to senior personnel or other relevant offices on campus when necessary.

* Make referrals to appropriate campus and academic support and resources, extracurricular activities, workshops and trainings, and other services within and outside the CIMST Department based on the unique interests and needs of each student.

* Maintain schedule of academic advising appointments and express advising hours, adapting during high-peak times to meet the high student demand.

* Develop and support initiatives and resources for graduate students focused on student success and retention, such as workshops, professional skill development, and others enriching the student experience and supporting curricular and co-curricular progression.

* Monitor student records and reports to track student academic progress for enrollment, retention, and graduation purposes.

Student Engagement, Support, and Outreach (20%)

* Coordinate New Student Orientation (NSR), including advising and assisting incoming students with course selection and registration for their first semester of classes.

* Coordinate and support programming and services for graduates, such that offered by the ALA Student Chapter, research opportunities, student ambassadors, and other activities that enrich the student experience and support curricular and co-curricular progression.

* Participate and support student recruitment and admissions efforts.

* Provide assistance at CIMST events supporting all programs.

Administration (20%)

* Consult with CIMST Department and Graduate School staff to make decisions based on policies, procedures, and individual student circumstances.

* Collaborate with the graduate faculty to evaluate student credentials to determine eligibility for admission to LIS programs.

* Assist with reporting and monitoring of student academic progress for enrollment, retention, and graduation purposes.

* Review, monitor, and maintain accurate student records based on academic performance and student progress towards degree requirements and assist with degree certification.

* Work with the CIMST Chair to review student forms, including transfers, student registration changes, course substitutions, and graduation applications.

* Participate in staff, committee, and other meetings as assigned.

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional Academic Advisor position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search close date. The budgeted salary range for the position is $48,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional Academic Advisor position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search close date.
