Overview

Pathways In Education (PIE) is an Alternative Learning Opportunities Program (ALOP) that serves grades 9‑12 in the Chicago community. The program addresses each student’s strengths and needs through small group classes, guided independent study, online courses, and experiential learning.

PIE looks for educators who are warm, outgoing, authentic, passionate and inspiring. It emphasizes the student‑teacher relationship as a critical component of students’ personal, emotional, and academic growth.

Position

Teacher – Chicago area (IL credential in a core subject, grades 9‑12) at the Ashburn Center.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver educational program that is data‑driven and results‑based, aligned with Common Core Standards.
  • Provide direct instruction to students for 6 hours a day, with lesson plans and differentiated curriculum to ensure student success.
  • Teach mastery of Common Core Standards and demonstrate mastery in a Single‑Subject content area.
  • Use assessments and data to influence instruction for student success.
  • Keep grade, attendance, and retention records.
  • Provide targeted interventions for special education students and English Language Learners.
  • Participate in community groups or functions, faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Meet with students and parents to discuss student progress and problems.
  • Participate in related activities such as student organizations or committees.
  • Assist with state‑mandated student testing.
Education and Experience
  • BA/BS degree.
  • Teaching credential in Illinois.
