Music Teacher

Music teachers report to their respective principals, as well as the music department chair. Music teachers are responsible for the planning, implementation, and delivery of a dynamic and engaging music curriculum, as well as supervision of students both in and outside of the classroom. They must also work collaboratively with members of their own department, administration, faculty, and support staff throughout the entire school.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach a combination of middle and high school music courses, which may include general music, music technology, and other departmental offerings based on program needs.
  • Develop and implement engaging, student-centered curriculum that fosters musical creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and artistic growth.
  • Work collaboratively with music department colleagues in a co-teaching environment to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of students, recognize problems, and coordinate with administrators, other teachers, and parents to support student success.
  • Members of the music department are expected to participate in the scheduled performances and showcases for each academic year. Students participate in concerts, festivals, exhibitions, and other public performances that celebrate their learning.
  • Music department members are expected to actively pursue professional development in music pedagogy, instructional technology, and emerging practices to provide students with a learning experience of the highest quality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach a variety of music courses as departmental needs evolve.
  • Serves as high school advisor.
  • Full-time teachers are expected to work a 40-hour workweek and the required number of days as stipulated in the faculty association contract. All teachers are expected to perform in accordance with the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • The anticipated start date for this position is 9/1/2026.

Education, Experience, or

Certifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in music education or music required.
  • Master's degree in music education or music preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience teaching middle and/or high school music students preferred.
  • Experience teaching general music preferred.
  • Band teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with music technology and digital music production preferred.
  • Experience with one or more digital audio workstations (DAWs) preferred.

Working Conditions and

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move in and around the classroom/building to interact with students, faculty, staff, parents, and other members of the community.
  • Ability to move class-related equipment/tools, as appropriate, around school property.
  • When appropriate, the ability to escort children from one classroom to another, in and out of the building during arrival and dismissal, and in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to demonstrate lessons, when appropriate.

Pay Range:

  • $74,968 - $166,645
