This position provides programming activities, support, and advising to premed students and develops programming and support for current medical students. Serves at the Program Coordinator (Program Advisor) for College of Medicine Urban Health Program (COM-UHP) pre-matriculation programs and medical student development programs. Medical student development programing, admissions, pre-med outreach and recruitment, pre-med advising, and medical school application review are all significant functions of this position.

Serves on local, university and community committees. Reports directly to the COM-UHP Assistant Director for Student Development. The position is onsite and located on the Chicago campus of the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Plan and coordinate programming for COM-UHP pre-matriculation programs (i.e., Post-baccalaureate Admissions Program and Summer Pre-matriculation Program) orientations). Ensures students adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Advise, monitor, and evaluate pre-matriculation program students and engage students as necessary to meet their individual needs.
  • Develop individual educational action plans for students to achieve academic goals, personal growth and evaluate student's progress; implements appropriate retention strategies to support students' efforts.
  • Identifies the diverse needs of students who are striving to meet the program requirements.
  • Coach and advise prospective applicants on the medical school application process and opportunities at the University.
  • Provide individual and group admissions workshops to diverse populations; review medical school applications.
  • Plan, develop and implement on- and off-campus events and programs to recruit targeted prospective applicants to the College of Medicine (e.g., medical school admissions informational seminars and workshops). The coordination requires significant collaboration with other departments and offices across campus.
  • Coordinate and staff in-state and out-of-staff medical student recruitment events hosted by outside organizations (e.g., Regional/National Student National Medical Association).
  • Plan and implement programming for high school and college students; present to various organizations, college and high school counselors, students, prospective students, and parents.
  • Develop promotional and marketing materials and maintains promotional, e.g., social networks, list serves, and email blasts.
  • Write/edit departmental newsletters and marketing material.
  • Provide information and statistical data, such as detailed recruitment activities; maintains student advisee data.
  • Coordinate COM-UHP medical student development programs and events (e.g., specialty mentorship program, research program, student development workshops).
  • Serve as an advocate for COM-UHP medical students.
Minimum Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Demonstrated experience in working with diverse populations, admissions, recruitment and academic advising in higher
    education.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • One year working in an academic advising or career services counseling area in a college or university setting/or one-year
      previous experience advising healthcare education or professionals preferred.
