Teacher

A teacher is responsible for delivering the mission of the Harrison School District #36, "Guiding students to successfully navigate valuable learning experiences". Essential duties and responsibilities include the following four domains:

Planning and Preparation

Create plans that demonstrate knowledge of content and instructional strategies specific to that discipline. Understanding of child and adolescent development, including each student's skills, knowledge, language proficiency, interests and cultural heritage. Create student learning objectives that reflect high-level learning and curriculum standards. Differentiate plans to accommodate students' learning styles. Analyze assessment results to plan for instruction or the individual needs of students.

Demonstrate use of technology in lessons that incorporate the ITSE standards.

Classroom Environment

Create a classroom community of responsibility, accountability, safety and mutual respect. Establish a culture of learning in which instructional groups are productively engaged and focused on learning objectives with minimal teacher support. Manage transitions to occur effortlessly in order to minimize loss of instructional time. Manage classroom supplies and materials. Share classroom expectations so it is safe for all students. Monitor student behavior that is fair and consistent with school policy and practice.

Instruction

Share (and display) expectations, student learning objectives and outcomes with students. Assess student learning based on learning objectives and adjust delivery of instruction to meet each student's learning style. Actively engage students in the learning process through high-level questioning, activities and assessments. Assess students regularly and give timely feedback that incorporates high quality information to address learning gaps, reteaching opportunities and/or enrichment activities.

Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to address student learning.

Professional Responsibilities

Be a reflective educator. Maintain accurate, timely instructional records. Engage parents/guardians in the learning process through active, regular communication. Participate in a professional learning community that demonstrates mutual respect and support for colleagues. Demonstrate integrity and display high level of ethics in interactions with students, colleagues and the community. Seek professional development opportunities that will enrich instruction and career growth.

Qualifications:

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with proper endorsements in content area(s) Minimum of Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university; LBS1 Endorsement;
Student-centered;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
Ability to incorporate effective instructional technology to deepen the learning process. Additional qualifications (including but not limited to):
Successful teaching experience desired, but not necessary;
Knowledge of a variety of interventions and strategies to address students' needs;
Experience writing measurable IEP goals and monitoring student progress;
Knowledge of Co-Teaching methods;
Be well versed in the academic, social and emotional needs of students;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
Ability to be an effective member of a team;
Have high energy and a willingness to devote the time required to be successful with high needs students;
Be collaborative and collegial;
Commitment to data-based decision making and continuous improvement.
