FULL-TIME FACULTY - ENGLISH MALCOLM X COLLEGE
Malcolm X College is currently seeking a qualified
Full-Time English Faculty member with a passion for teaching and learning, along with a strong commitment to the missions andideals of the community college. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using highly effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and that promote the acquisition and application of knowledge and the development of critical and creative thinking and problem-solving skills;
and in addition, engage in and model intellectual curiosity and express passion for their discipline sand for learning in general.
- Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’active participation in their own learning.
- Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
- Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments toensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
- Help students reach their academic, personal and career goalsand foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of peopleand ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
- Contribute to and provide leadership in their academic and professional communities and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.
- Adhere to City Colleges of Chicago code of ethics, Board rulesand policies
- Master’s degree in English Language and Literature – OR –Master’s degree and
18 graduate hours in English, Literature,Creative Writing or Composition/Rhetoric - Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System,preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students required
- Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population isdesired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college
- Scholarship work, publications, committee work, and other relevant work is highly considered.
- Two to three years of teaching experience at the college level preferred.

- Unofficial transcripts, a statement of your teaching philosophyand professional letters of recommendation are required at the timeof interview. Official transcripts must be provided if hired.
- A teaching demonstration will be required of selected candidates at a future date.
Salary Range: $58,000 - $65,000
Offered salary will be determined by the respective collectivebargaining agreement and applicant's education.

Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within6 months of hire.
