Academic Advisor, Chicago College of Performing Arts

The Chicago College of Performing Arts' advisors support the degree advising and course registration of students in undergraduate and graduate performing arts programs, as assigned.

Responsibilities include:

serving as the primary advisory to students in a portion of the College's program portfolio, completing accurate student registrations for the fall, spring, and summer terms, supporting advising efforts in other Conservatories, assisting the Director of Advising and Academic Planning in gathering student rosters, preparing reports, and managing student and course data systems, and assisting the Director of Advising and Academic Planning with semesterly and annually planning tasks.

This is a hybrid position, with a minimum of three days per week required for in-person work on Roosevelt University's Chicago campus. This position reports to the Director of Advising and Academic Planning. The anticipated start date is August 31st.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Required
- Recommended experience in student advising, performing arts program administration, and/or higher education student services. Beneficial experience working with university catalogs, degree maps, and degree/program expectations. Minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree, preferably in the performing arts. This role requires an individual with the ability to manage a large workflow of emails, scheduled student appointments, and walk-ins. The successful applicant needs strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a high degree discretion.

Preferred experience with MS Excel and an ability to learn new software.

Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred experience teaching, administering or studying in a professional arts degree, such as a BFA, BM, or BMA program.

Working Conditions
- Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress. Occasional travel within the local or regional setting may be required.
