English Language Arts (ELA) Instructional Coach (Education) Primary Professional Function

The ELA Instructional Coach will provide instructional support and coaching to FXW faculty as they work to ensure that each student is able to reach their academic potential. The Literacy Instructional Coach's primary role is to work with classroom teachers in the areas of literacy and English language arts. This may include modeling lessons in classrooms, helping teachers and Teams plan instruction, designing and analyzing assessments aligned with the School's philosophy, creating system-wide policies and procedures, and facilitating professional development.

The ELA Instructional Coach will work in conjunction with the Leadership Team to align course curriculum based on research and the School's philosophy of literacy education, to provide analysis of school-wide trends in instruction, and to make recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of need. The ELA Instructional Coach will also work collaboratively with the Student Success Team to advise teachers on developing instructional strategies and intervention programs for students who need literacy support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a literacy specialist to assist in the development and implementation of the School's instructional plans that align to FXW goals and curricula.

  • Work with teachers and administration to analyze student data, diagnose instructional needs, and identify research-based instructional strategies to close achievement gaps.

  • Support the development of high quality/effective ELA instruction, to include observing and coaching ELA teachers to improve instructional planning, teaching practice, and the use of data, assessment and instructional technology.

  • Help teachers and administrators to develop both school-wide and classroom intervention plans.

  • Continuously monitor, track, and analyze student achievement data in order to identify needed supports and strategies.

    • Plan and execute regular curriculum meetings with grade-level teams to support curriculum implementation, instructional delivery, and analysis of student assessment data.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Compliance

Although FXW is an Independent Catholic School, all faculty and staff comply with the Archdiocese of Chicago's Protecting God's Children Requirements.

  • Complete the required new hire paperwork and mandatory Archdiocese training.

  • Must clear Background Check/Fingerprints.

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with internal policies.

  • Required to attend additional training classes as designated by the Security Operations Manager/ Security Lead or Security Supervisor and or FXW administrative staff.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in education required.

  • Master's degree in teaching or Curriculum preferred.

  • At least 3-5 years of ELA teaching experience.

  • Experience with ELA curriculum development and daily lesson planning.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Effective oral, written, and technology skills.

  • Familiarity with ISACS criteria and standards of excellence.

Key Relationships

The ELA Instructional Coach reports to the OSP & HNC Campus Principal and will be supervised, evaluated, and mentored by the Principal and/or Assistant Principal. Other key relationships include campus leadership, Head of School, other teachers and administrators, staff, students and parents.

Physical Requirements Standing and Movement
  • Teachers frequently stand for extended periods while teaching, and they need to be able to walk around the classroom and maneuver in tight spaces.
