School-Community Representative/Parent Worker Duties

The School-Community Representative is responsible for CPC program outreach. This is a 0.50 FTE position or greater and collaborates with the Head Teacher, Parent Resource Teacher, and teachers. The School-Community Representative works closely with the Parent Resource Teacher to engage family members in activities in the Parent Resource Room and in the classroom. This role is primarily centered around attendance calls and support, and resource mobilization, providing referral to community and social-service agencies.

Additionally, this role will engage with the local community collaborative to better identify community resources in order to provide continued support to the families served in the school. The School-Community Representative also incorporates targeted support for identified families in need and those students missing 3 or more school days.

Child-Parent Centers

The Child-Parent Centers (CPC) program is a holistic targeted school reform model that emphasizes aligned education and services for low-income children from pre-kindergarten through third grade. CPCs have a heavy literacy focus in the classroom, small class sizes, intensive family involvement, and a structure that aligns services for children over time.

School Community Representative/Parent Worker Duties

School Community Representative (SCR):

* Works under the direction of the principal and CPC Specialist to ensure the successful implementation of the position of the SCR

* Collaborates with Head Teacher and Parent Resource Teacher to guide the implementation of all services within the school.

* Actively recruits and engages parents and other family members to become involved in the school

* Ensures that each parent or guardian understands the expectation to participate for 2.5 hours per week in activities of their choice.

* Calls all Pre-K and Kindergarten families at the beginning of the school day (both am and pm) that are absent or tardy to identify reasons for absence at school

* For those families that miss 3 or more days of school, the SCR must complete a Home Visit

* Work with families that are chronically absent to educate them on the importance of school and attendance.

* Maintain a weekly schedule and send it to the principal and CPC Specialist, prior to the start of the week.

* Must participate and attend all staff training and meetings as well as all CPC collaborative team meetings.

* Provides or refers parents to adult education (e.g., GED course), personal development, and referrals to other services

* Complete and submit required forms and records in a timely accurate fashion

* Engage and empower families and communities to advocate for all children

* Work in partnership with a wide array of individuals and organizations

* Assure that files are complete, accurate and confidentiality maintained

* Attend and engage with the local community collaborative to ensure resource alignment and two-way community support.

* Meet regularly with CPC Specialist to discuss the progress and development of the families in their center.

* Perform other duties, as may be requested by the CPC Specialist.
