OVERVIEW The Study Abroad Assistant Director at the University of Illinois Chicago supports the development, administration, and implementation of study abroad exchange, partnership, and direct enroll program opportunities for students. The role works across academic units and with international partners to help expand abroad opportunities while supporting program planning, budgets, agreements, and student services. This position also contributes to safety and risk management coordination and serves as a departmental point person in a designated study abroad functional area.

Key

responsibilities
  • Advise for, administer, and implement study abroad exchange, partnership, and direct enroll program activities within a regional advising portfolio
  • Serve as a college liaison for assigned UIC colleges and departments
  • Assist with the expansion of faculty-directed study abroad program opportunities
  • Collaborate with faculty members on program proposals and academic planning
  • Source and negotiate with program partners
  • Manage program agreements and budgets
  • Coordinate and oversee program logistics for abroad initiatives
  • Coordinate with international university partners and academic consortia
  • Monitor costs, student affairs, and applicable academic curricula
  • Assist with planning and response related to safety and risk management issues
  • Serve as a departmental point person for at least one key study abroad area such as marketing and outreach, student financial aid and scholarships, or pre-departure and re-entry support
Requirements
  • Experience advising for and administering study abroad exchange, partnership, or direct enroll program activities
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and international partners
  • Experience supporting program planning, agreements, and budgets
  • Ability to coordinate logistics and academic program activities
  • Ability to assist with safety and risk management planning and response
  • Ability to monitor academic curricula, student affairs, and program costs
  • Strong communication and coordination skills for working with colleges, departments, and partners WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS This role supports access to international study opportunities by helping students participate in meaningful academic experiences abroad. Through collaboration with faculty, university partners, and academic departments, the position contributes to well-managed program development and effective planning that supports student learning and institutional partnerships.
