Cook County School District 130 is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered middle school science teacher to join the team at Veterans Memorial Middle School. This is an opportunity to help middle school students discover the excitement of science through engaging, rigorous, and differentiated instruction. The ideal candidate is a creative educator who builds strong relationships with students, fosters curiosity and critical thinking, and uses student data to continuously strengthen instruction.
Primary responsibilities include designing and delivering engaging, rigorous science instruction aligned with the district curriculum and state learning standards. Develop meaningful learning outcomes and lesson plans using research-based instructional practices. Create differentiated learning experiences that meet the diverse academic needs of students. Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction. Foster a positive, inclusive classroom culture where students feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to succeed.
Engage students in scientific thinking through questioning, discussion, investigation, reflection, and problem-solving. Establish effective classroom routines and expectations that maximize instructional time and support student learning. Use technology and instructional resources, including Google Classroom, to enhance teaching and learning. Communicate regularly and positively with families regarding student learning and academic and social-emotional progress. Reflect on instructional practices and collaborate with colleagues to continually improve student outcomes.
Qualifications include a current and valid Illinois professional educator license with a middle school science endorsement. Strong knowledge of science content, state learning standards, and effective middle school instructional practices. A student-centered approach and the ability to create engaging learning experiences for a diverse student population. Flexibility, creativity, and a commitment to meeting the individual needs of students. The ability to analyze student data and use it to inform instructional decisions.
Knowledge of differentiated and standards-based instructional strategies. Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills. Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and colleagues. Foundational knowledge of Google Classroom and the ability to integrate technology effectively into instruction.
Salary and benefits include a starting salary of $54,344. Qualified candidates may receive credit for up to 20 years of verified full-time teaching experience on the salary schedule.
