Job Description
Make a positive impact on students' lives as a Special Education Teacher working with 6th graders. In this contract role near Cicero, IL, you'll provide support and instruction in a dynamic, collaborative school environment. You'll have the opportunity to teach one special education ELA class for a small group of 12 students, ensuring personalized learning and growth. In addition, you'll co-teach two classes in general education settings - one ELA and one science - fostering inclusion and teamwork.
Another period will be dedicated to a WIN class, functioning as a structured study hall designed specifically for special education students.
Qualifications &
Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Prior experience teaching in special education, particularly at the middle school level, is highly desirable.
- Strong ability to create differentiated lesson plans and adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.
- Team-player attitude with excellent communication skills for collaboration with general education teachers.
- Familiarity with IEP development, implementation, and compliance.
- Organizational skills for managing multiple classes and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach a dedicated special education ELA class for 12 students, focusing on literacy and individualized academic goals.
- Work alongside general education teachers to co-teach ELA and science classes, providing accommodations and modifications to create an inclusive environment.
- Lead a WIN class - a structured study hall - helping students with organization, study skills, and IEP goals.
- Develop, review, and implement IEPs for assigned students, maintaining all required records.
- Actively participate in team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development sessions.
- Foster an encouraging, respectful classroom that supports emotional and behavioral growth.
