- Personal Fitness Trainer
Dawson Technical Institute (DTI) at Kennedy-King College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, is seeking an innovative and collaborative Lecturer Vocational
- Personal Fitness Trainer to provide instruction in physical fitness and wellness to students enrolled in construction trade and utility industry programs. Under the general supervision of the Dean of Dawson Technical Institute, the Personal Fitness Trainer will develop and deliver customized fitness and nutrition programs designed to improve students' strength, endurance, and overall physical well-being. The trainer will create contextualized learning activities that build the physical capabilities required for success in construction and utility careers, enhancing workplace efficiency, safety, and performance.
Dawson Technical Institute is dedicated to providing intensive, comprehensive, and industry-validated training for individuals pursuing careers in the construction trades and utility industries. Through competency-based instruction and hands-on learning experiences, DTI prepares students to compete successfully in these fields and to transition into union apprenticeship programs and other high-demand trade and utility career opportunities. The Person al Fitness Trainer plays a key role in supporting student readiness for the physical demands of these career pathways.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create and facilitate lessons in nutrition, physical fitness and healthy lifestyles for students preparing to work in the construction industry.
- Classroom preparation, lesson planning, classroom instruction (theory and contextualized learning and assessment).
- Contact hours with students, material preparation for student class work.
- Blackboard Learning Management System administrative work.
Qualifications :
- Must hold a degree and/or certificate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Sciences, Personal Training, Corrective Exercise, Health Coach, Physical therapy, Rehabilitation or other related health sciences and medical fields; must have 2 years or more of clinical experience in related field
- Must have CPR Certification
- Exhibit sensitivity to a multicultural student population.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Working independently and exercising sound judgement; maintaining confidentiality in all matters related to students
- Ability to work under pressure and exercise flexibility as needed.
