Position: At-Risk Mentor

Ombudsman Educational Services seeks an At-Risk Mentor to support middle and high school students in alternative education programs. In this role, you'll build trusting relationships, encourage attendance and engagement, and reinforce positive behavior in a safe, structured setting. You'll provide one-on-one and small-group support, help students stay on track with credit-bearing coursework, and collaborate with teachers, counselors, and district partners. This position is ideal for candidates passionate about student advocacy, behavior support, and helping nontraditional learners find academic and personal success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentoring and academic support to at-risk middle and high school students in an alternative education setting
  • Build trusting relationships to encourage attendance, engagement, and positive behavior
  • Support personalized, credit-bearing instruction under teacher and program guidance
  • Monitor student progress, document observations, and communicate concerns to teachers and program staff
  • Reinforce behavior support plans and classroom expectations to maintain a safe, structured environment
  • Collaborate with school district partners, counselors, and families to support student success
  • Assist with small-group and one-on-one interventions focused on social-emotional skills and goal setting
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development on trauma-informed and restorative practices
