Librarian Fellow

The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) is a 501(c)(3) membership organization located in Washington, DC that serves as the voice of accredited academic public health. ASPPH serves more than 150+ academic schools and programs of public health accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The Librarian Fellow will participate in a one-year learning partnership supported by the Grace and Harold Sewell Memorial Fund. The fellowship is designed to immerse an experienced librarian in ASPPH's work while applying library and information science expertise in nontraditional ways. Through collaboration with staff, organizational leaders, and an advisory group, the Fellow will support projects that strengthen ASPPH's use of information, research, and data-management practices while gaining a deeper understanding of academic public health, association operations, and organizational decision-making.

• Participate in team-based projects that apply library, information science, research, and data-management skills in nontraditional ways.
• Collaborate with ASPPH staff and leaders to identify information needs and opportunities to improve the organization, access, and use of information.
• Support selected projects and activities that advance ASPPH's mission and strengthen the organization's use of information science disciplines.
• Learn about ASPPH's programs, operations, decision-making processes, members, partners, and the public health issues addressed by the organization.
• Conduct research, synthesize information, and develop resources, recommendations, or other work products in support of assigned projects.
• Engage regularly with the fellowship mentor and advisory group for activity planning, coaching, feedback, and progress monitoring.
• Participate in professional development opportunities and share observations, recommendations, and lessons learned from the fellowship experience.
• Maintain effective communication and engagement while working remotely and during the required weekly in-office day.
• Perform other duties consistent with the purpose of the fellowship as assigned.

• Professional experience applying library or information science skills in an academic, research, health, nonprofit, association, or comparable professional environment.
• Knowledge of research methods, information organization and retrieval, data or information management, and current library and information science practices.
• Interest in public health, health research, academic public health, association work, or the application of information science outside a traditional library setting.
• Strong research, analytical, organizational, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and collaborate effectively across teams and professional disciplines.
• Ability to communicate and remain engaged in a hybrid work environment using both in-person and virtual collaboration tools.
• Ability to perform work with accuracy, exercise sound judgment, and solve problems creatively.

• Master's degree in library science, library and information science, information science, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.

• Work Locale: This is a local hybrid position. The Fellow must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and be within a reasonable commute of ASPPH's downtown Washington, DC office. The Fellow will work in person one day per week, with the remaining work performed remotely. Additional in-office attendance may be required for meetings or fellowship activities.
