Position Summary

The Art Teacher provides engaging, rigorous, mission-centered instruction that supports students' academic, spiritual, and personal formation within the Jesuit Catholic tradition. The teacher fosters a dynamic learning environment that encourages critical thinking, faith development, and service to others while collaborating with colleagues to advance the School's commitment to educating the whole person. This position contributes to the intellectual and spiritual life of the Saint Ignatius community through excellence in teaching and active participation in school life.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver Studio Foundation curriculum for freshman-level courses focusing on drawing and painting, utilizing the current departmental curriculum and Catholic educational standards.

Utilize the course's engaging lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials that promote critical thinking, faith formation, and student achievement.

Foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive classroom environment that encourages academic excellence and personal growth.

Utilize the School's 1:1 iPad program and other instructional technologies to enhance student learning and engagement.

Assess student learning, maintain accurate academic records, and communicate student progress with families and school personnel.

Collaborate with Art faculty and interdisciplinary teams to support curriculum and instructional excellence.

Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, retreats, liturgies, and other school activities that support the Jesuit mission.

Serve as a positive role model by supporting students' academic, spiritual, and personal development.

Other duties as assigned.

Scope and Impact

This position has a direct impact on student learning, faith formation, and the overall educational mission of Saint Ignatius College Prep. The Art Teacher exercises professional judgment in curriculum implementation, instructional practices, and classroom management while contributing to a collaborative academic environment. The role supports the School's mission by fostering meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, and families and by promoting the values of Jesuit education.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor's degree in Art Education or a related field.

Submission of a digital portfolio containing samples of personal artwork in drawing and painting and student artwork as well (submitted prior to interview).

Background suitable for teaching five sections of the Studio Foundation course- drawing, painting, and 2D design.

Understanding of educational theory and effective instructional practices.

Ability to integrate instructional technology into teaching and learning.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Commitment to working with a diverse student body.

Commitment to collaboration and Catholic education.

Qualifications Preferred

Master's degree in Art Education, or a related field.

Valid state teaching credentials.

Previous secondary teaching experience.

Practicing Catholic with an appreciation for Jesuit education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Strong instructional planning, classroom management, and student engagement skills.

Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.

Ability to integrate technology effectively into classroom instruction.

Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, administration, students, and families.

Ability to support students' academic, moral, and spiritual development in accordance with the mission of the School.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position operates in a classroom and school environment with regular interaction with students, faculty, staff, and families. The role requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, communicating, and using instructional technology. Comfortable with maintaining a shared studio environment with other art faculty. Occasional evening or weekend participation in school events, retreats, professional development, or other school-sponsored activities may be required.

Compensation and Schedule

This is a full-time (5-month), exempt, temporary position for the second semester of the  school year. Salary Range: $27,. Compensation is salaried and commensurate with education and experience.
