The Psychiatry & Behavioral Neuroscience Manager of Medical Education and Professional Development serves as the administrative leader for education programs and professional development initiatives within the department, partnering closely with the Vice Chair of Education and Academic Affairs to support the ongoing accreditation, strategic growth, and operational excellence of residency and fellowship training programs. In collaboration with the Director of Medical Education and Director of Fellowship Programs, this role develops and advances short- and long-term programmatic initiatives, evaluates the effectiveness of educational objectives, and provides regular feedback and reporting to Residency and Fellowship Program Directors and Department leadership, including the Associate Chair of Education, Director of Residency Programs, Director of Fellowship Programs, and Director of Medical Education.
Working in partnership with the Vice Chair for Education and Academic Affairs, Director of Residency Training, and Vice Chair for Clinical Operations, the Administrator leads the advancement of a comprehensive professional development strategy supporting faculty, staff, and trainees across the educational continuum, fostering mentorship, career development, and academic growth within Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience. The role also oversees compliance with licensing requirements, moonlighting policies, annual contracts, and the initial and ongoing credentialing and re-credentialing of trainees.
Additionally, this position oversees and directs ACGME new program applications, onboarding processes, and training for new program leadership, while collaborating on ACGME site visits and self-studies. The Administrator also manages internal program reviews as required by Medical Education or UCM GME/Finance and oversees preparation for external audits to ensure continued compliance and program excellence.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior leadership for a broad portfolio of training programs, including ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency programs, psychiatry fellowship programs (MD/PhD-aligned where applicable), LCME accredited medical student education, psychology postdoctoral training programs, and non-accredited fellowship and advanced training programs in psychiatry, psychology, and behavioral neuroscience.
- Provide direct management and supervision of education and professional development staff, including program coordinators and administrative personnel supporting residency, fellowship, and psychology training programs.
- Oversee all education and professional development initiatives for psychiatry residents, medical students, psychology trainees, fellows, faculty, and staff across the departmental training continuum.
- Ensure full compliance with ACGME and LCME, institutional GME, and applicable psychology/postdoctoral training APPIC accreditation standards, including oversight of program reviews, Annual Program Evaluations (APE), and site visits.
- Provide fiscal oversight and strategic management of education and professional development budgets supporting residency, fellowship, medical student education, psychology training.
- Lead, direct, and manage recruitment, retention, mentorship, and career development initiatives for psychiatry residents, psychology trainees, and postdoctoral fellows.
- Collaborate with program directors, psychology training directors, coordinators, and GME leadership to ensure program development. compliance, quality, alignment, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and sustain a culture of academic excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, scholarship, innovation, and engagement across psychiatry, psychology, and behavioral neuroscience.
- Oversee development of infrastructure supporting education and scholarship, including tracking systems, and departmental intranet resources.
- Serve as senior advisor to the Chair, Executive Administrator, and Vice Chairs on all matters related to education, accreditation, training program performance, and professional development strategy.
