Tutoring
The University Learning Center (ULC) supports The New School’s students through one‑on‑one tutoring, workshops, and other academic resources. Tutors help students improve writing, presentations, time management, and overall academic skills.
Responsibilities• Tutor graduate and undergraduate students in writing projects, including brainstorming, outlining, argument development, drafting, revising, and citation guidance.
• Assist with oral presentations, time management, and plagiarism avoidance (including AI).
• Provide cover‑letter, resume, personal‑statement, thesis, dissertation, and research‑proposal support.
• Lead in‑class or specialized ULC workshops.
• Create a welcoming environment by respecting diverse cultures, languages, and experiences.
• Complete administrative tasks such as session briefings and daily attendance summaries.
- Current enrollment in a relevant program at The New School.
- At least one year of tutoring or formal English/all business writing teaching experience.
- 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
- Commitment to 6 or more tutoring hours per week.
- Experience working with students with ADHD (plus).
- Federal Work Study (preferred).
- Experience with ESL and graduate‑level students (strongly preferred).
• Hybrid work model.
• Hourly rate: $29.20/hr through August 31 (new rate to be determined by the next collective bargaining agreement).
