Position: Graduate Assistant for CSDIG 403: Language Disorders (Birth-School) - Student Employment

Teaching Assistant Position in Communication Sciences & Disorders

Teaching assistants (TA) in CSD at Saint Xavier will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities tailored to the course assignment. As a TA, the student will gain practical experience in supporting classroom instruction, facilitating student learning, and assisting with course administration. The emphasis will be placed on developing pedagogical skills, understanding diverse learning needs, and fostering an inclusive educational environment.

This is ideal for students aspiring to hold future roles as educators, researchers, or clinical supervisors in academia or educational settings within the field of communication disorders. This student employment opportunity supports the development of skills aligned with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies. Through this role, students will strengthen the following competencies:

    Students build communication skills by practicing clear, respectful, and professional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication in a workplace setting.

TAs are responsible for assisting faculty with teaching and administrative tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting faculty with classroom instruction, records, and assignments
  • Leading discussion sections (if TA is available during class)
  • Meeting with students during TA Student Support Hours/Review Sessions (plan for 1 hr/week)
  • Leading student reviews before each quiz
  • Assist with grading quizzes (answer key provided)
  • Assist with grading projects
  • Preparing in-class activity materials
  • Recording and calculating grades
  • Providing feedback on assignments
  • Proctoring examinations
  • Taking attendance or monitoring participation
  • Prepare and distribute course materials (if the TA is available during class)
  • Meeting with faculty 1x/week
  • Completing administrative tasks (e.g., photocopying, printing)
  • Identify evidence-based resources that can support course content
  • Communicate student concerns/needs with faculty

MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY

Must be Federal Work Study Eligible

We are seeking a motivated 2nd year SLP graduate student with special interest in pediatric language disorders to assist in instruction of CSDIG 403. Required qualifications include successful completion of undergraduate language development courses in CSD and/or psychology, CSDIG 403, and CSDIG 503; preferred qualifications include As in relevant undergraduate/graduate coursework and a desire to pursue a clinical career in pediatric speech-language pathology.

Job requirements:

grading of assignments, projects, and exams, planning and running review sessions prior to exams, responding to student emails, meeting with students on request, creation of supplemental study materials and activities for students based on class content, and assistance with management of technology platforms for class functions (e.g., LMS/Canvas, Quizlet/Kahoot).
