The Office of Student Health and Wellness (OSHW) aims to eliminate health-related barriers to learning and advance health equity in Chicago. CPS is committed to addressing barriers to student health and wellness and providing education, programs, and activities that help improve the quality of life for students attending our schools. OSHW also strives to decrease health disparities within the district through the coordination of school health programs and student health services.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Children and Family Benefits Unit (CFBU) Coordinator is responsible for conducting educational outreach to CPS families, staff, and community members to increase enrollment, engagement, and utilization (EEU) of Social Services, including but not limited to Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). They provide frontline support and coach schools in developing systems to address the health and wellness needs of students and the school community, including connecting students with appropriate internal and external health services.

This is a full-time, exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary basis.

• Complete a minimum of 25 household SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP, and TANF applications per month.

• Conduct virtual and in‑person school technical assistance presentations and community-based outreach for parents and staff at all schools within an assigned network, as the primary contact on Medicaid and SNAP program enrollment, navigation of social service resources, providing health care knowledge, and information on public benefit rights, eligibility, and renewal for CPS families

• Collaborate with all schools within an assigned network to ensure they have a Medicaid Designee.

• Cultivate and maintain partnerships with community‑based organizations and state agencies at the local level such as the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (IDHFS) and the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS).

• Work with Senior CFBU Coordinators and CFBU Team Leads to develop and operationalize sustainable processes to support functional enrollment, engagement, and utilization of care improvements for the OSHW.

• Responds to and completes tasks relevant to OSHW business processes per the request of management, such as covering hotline response during periods of high call volume, disease response support, or as requested by leadership.
