Senior Student Assistant Specialist - 2nd Year Psychology Extern

The mission of Student Health Services is to promote the health and well-being of students to foster their learning and success. Reporting to the Associate Director of Clinical Training Programs, the 2nd Year Psychology Externs will work under supervision to provide services to New School Students at the Student Health Services Counseling Center for the academic year. You’ll be at the nexus of strategy, operations, and innovation in a role that grows with your impact. Students completing the full-time (15 hour/ week) externship will receive a stipend of $12,000.

• Provide individual psychotherapy to the New School student body.
• Provide crisis care.
• Conduct assessments and triage visits to determine appropriate levels of care.
• Provide psychotherapy and psychiatry referrals for the New School student body as needed.
• Work collaboratively with all Student Success offices, including but not limited to Student Support and Advocacy, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Student Disability Services, Student Success Advisors, the Office of Academic Standards, among others.
• Provide group psychotherapy to the New School student body as needed.
• Complete confidential written clinical notes and reports in a timely fashion.
• Communicate to supervisors any clinical or interprofessional problems that may occur.
• Maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA laws.

New School PhD Psychology Candidate in their 2nd year in good standing.

This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis, depending on the nature of the role and operational needs. Any such arrangement must be discussed and approved in advance by the appropriate division lead or their designee.

• Students completing the full‑time (15 hour/ week) externship will receive a stipend of $12,000.
• The employment period is 40 weeks, with two weeks paid vacation will be worked into the payment schedule, for holidays and spring break.
• As these positions are not research‑related or teaching assistant work, they are not subject to SENS‑UAW guidelines.
