Position: Solar O&M Technician (Level 1 or 2)

A leading commercial renewable energy provider in the Midwest is seeking a Solar O&M Technician to support commercial rooftop and distributed solar systems across the greater Chicago area.

This is a hands-on field role ideal for a technician who can work independently, troubleshoot efficiently, and maintain high-performing solar assets.

  • $30–$50 per hour (based on experience)

What You’ll Do

As a Solar O&M Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and servicing commercial rooftop solar and energy storage systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on commercial solar arrays
  • Troubleshooting DC and AC electrical systems, including inverter diagnostics
  • Conducting mechanical and electrical inspections
  • Replacing failed or damaged components
  • Performing system testing using digital multimeters, amp clamps, and meggers
  • Supporting battery storage (ESS) system maintenance as applicable
  • Conducting infrared thermography and drone inspections (training provided if needed)
  • Completing detailed service documentation, work orders, and maintenance logs
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with NEC standards
Qualifications

Required:

  • 2+ years of technical experience (solar, electrical, or related field)
  • Experience maintaining commercial or utility-scale solar systems
  • Rooftop experience required
  • Strong troubleshooting ability and ability to work independently
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs)
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Comfortable working at heights and lifting up to 100 lbs

Preferred:

  • Experience with SCADA systems
  • Exposure to medium voltage systems
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • NABCEP certification
  • Field-based role
  • Greater Chicago territory
  • No overnight travel
  • Overtime opportunities available
  • Year-round work, including winter months
  • Possible on-call rotation (if applicable)
