Responsibilities
- Maintain, test, inspect, install, remove, and operate substation high voltage conversion and distribution equipment.
- Work with 12 kV AC switch gear, 4 kV AC light and power switch gear, 2.3 kV AC signal switch gear, 1500 V DC rectifiers and switch gear, high voltage transformers, motor‑operated overhead disconnect switches, vacuum contractors, and computer‑based Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition equipment.
- Perform paperwork, inventory management and vehicle and tool maintenance related to the position.
- Perform other related duties as needed to meet the organization’s ongoing needs.
- Journeyman Electrician with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in conversion substation or utility substation maintenance.
- Proficient in interpreting substation one‑line and switch gear schematic diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting background.
- Computer hardware and software background.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 75 pounds; up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Must pass Metra’s Roadway Worker rules within 30 days of hire.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Knowledgeable in maintaining SCADA equipment.
Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
