Our client has 25+ years of experience as an independent service provider within the radiation therapy and medical equipment industry, focusing on patient-centered and quality-driven solutions.
AboutThe Role
We’re hiring a Field Service Engineer II to service and support radiation oncology linear accelerators (LINACs) in the field. This is a Level II role designed for engineers who can diagnose, maintain, and repair systems independently on customer sites, with a strong focus on minimizing downtime and delivering high-touch customer support in clinical environments.
Success in this position is measured by reducing mean time to repair—from the initial service call through resolution and customer confirmation.
Key Responsibilities- Perform on-site service, repair, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on assigned LINAC systems (hardware/software as applicable).
- Diagnose electro-mechanical, electronic, and system-level failures and determine the most cost-effective resolution to reduce customer downtime.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for assigned accounts; build trust with clinical teams and stakeholders.
- Document service activity, troubleshooting steps, and parts usage accurately in internal systems.
- Maintain and manage spare parts inventory for assigned sites (including replenishment of customer kits where applicable).
- Provide remote/phone technical support as needed to support customers and/or other field engineers.
- Maintain current technical knowledge, documentation, and safe work practices.
- 2+ years of hands-on field service experience with Varian True Beam (minimum requirement).
- Ability to work independently in the field and complete diagnostics/repairs without direct supervision.
- Strong background in electronic and electro-mechanical troubleshooting and test equipment use (verification/calibration).
- Working knowledge of PC-based systems; ability to identify and repair routine software and network-related issues.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused mindset (clinical/professional environment).
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work on equipment requiring standing, dexterity, and use of small tools/parts.
- Willingness to travel (domestic and occasional international travel may be required).
- Elekta experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with CRM/ERP tools (e.g., Salesforce) and strong comfort with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
- On-call coverage 24/7/365 (rotation/assignment details discussed during interview).
- Engineers typically support 2–3 machines on average (varies by territory and business needs).
