Commissioning Manager

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experiencedr Commissioning Manager to join our team and take ownership of commissioning oversight for a landmark hyperscale data centre development in Chicago, Illinois.

This 200-acre, 200MW campus represents a major strategic investment and is one of the most significant mission-critical projects currently under development in North America. As the first dedicated in-house commissioning professional on the project, you will play a critical role in ensuring successful delivery of the commissioning programme while working closely with project stakeholders and the appointed commissioning agent.

This is a highly visible position with a long-term growth path, offering the opportunity to help shape commissioning standards, processes, and future team development across upcoming projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage the execution of the commissioning programme delivered by the appointed commissioning agent.
• Monitor commissioning progress through all project phases, ensuring alignment with project objectives, schedules, and operational requirements.
• Coordinate closely with construction, design, operations, and commissioning teams to drive successful project delivery.
• Review commissioning plans, procedures, scripts, reports, and turnover documentaion.
• Identify risks, troubleshoot issues, and support resolution of technical and operational challenges.
• Manage subcontractors and key stakeholders to ensure commissioning milestones are achieved safely and efficiently.
• Support integrated systems testing and operational readiness activities.
• Establish best practices and contribute to the development of commissioning standards for future projects.
• Provide leadership and strategic direction with the longer-term objective of building and leading an internal commissioning team.

Candidate Profile,

The successful candidate will ideally bring:

• Strong electrical field and commissioning experience within mission-critical environments.
• Proven data centre commissioning experience, ideally covering commissioning phases 0–6.
• Deep understanding of how critical systems are designed, installed, commissioned, operated, and maintained.
• Experience with electrical distribution systems, backup power generation, UPS systems, switch gear, controls, and associated critical infrastructure.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage contractors, consultants, and commissioning stakeholders effectively.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
• A stable career history with evidence of delivering long-term impact across major projects and organisations.
• The ambition and capability to develop and lead a commissioning function as the business continues to expand.
