A minority-owned firm based in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Resident Engineer to join its construction management team and have the opportunity to eventually grow into a department manager. The ideal candidate will lead field operations on civil infrastructure projects for clients such as IDOT, the Illinois Tollway, and local municipalities. Responsibilities include interpreting plans, overseeing inspections, maintaining project documentation, resolving field issues, and ensuring safety compliance.
This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact transportation and public works projects while contributing to a team known for technical excellence, responsiveness, and community-focused service.
- Serve as the lead field engineer or inspector on large-scale roadway, bridge, and utility construction projects.
- Interpret complex engineering plans and specifications to ensure accurate execution and compliance.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including daily field reports, quantity tracking, and change orders.
- Proactively identify and resolve field issues, collaborating with contractors, clients, and design teams to develop practical solutions.
- Prepare and review technical reports, permit applications, and construction documentation.
- Facilitate communication among stakeholders, including municipal agencies, contractors, and internal teams.
- Mentor junior staff and enforce safety protocols to maintain a secure and efficient job site.

Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- 8+ years as an inspector on municipal, county or IDOT or Tollway construction projects.
- PE license in Illinois preferred or ability to obtain.
- Experience with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, or municipal infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and documentation standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Chicago, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $142000.00/yr. 3 weeks PTO, 7 holidays, and reimbursement for travel (company vehicle TBD)
Workplace TypeThis is a fully onsite position in Chicago, IL.
