The JLL-SKAE Data Center and Mission Critical Commissioning group is looking for a seasoned Commissioning Engineer / Project Manager to join our team to support our growth in this market segment. This position will act as the technical team leader for our Mechanical and Controls commissioning disciplines. This role is open to location throughout the US and will include approximately 30-40% overnight travel in support of our portfolio of projects in US and Canada.
Responsibilities- A strong fluency with the data center commissioning processes and deliverables covered in ASHRAE commissioning requirements and guidelines.
- Demonstrated expertise acting as the commissioning lead for data center mechanical equipment/systems installation inspections, startup, pre-functional, functional and integrated testing.
- Manage and perform Commissioning design drawing, specification and submittal reviews.
- Lead team members in the performance of, and where necessary, self-perform, the field commissioning activities. This includes scheduling and coordinating JLL and external project team members, ensuring CxA pre-test requirements are fulfilled by the contractors and relevant sub-trades, and maximizing efficiency/productivity of our staff.
- Demonstrated experience working and coordinating directly with data center project General Contractor (GC), sub-contractors, AHJs, Engineer of Record, and others involved with the project execution for small, medium and large scale critical facility construction and commissioning projects.
- Liaise with team members, outside consultants and contractors to lead cross functional teams on data center or mission critical commissioning projects.
- Develop project specific Commissioning Plans and Commissioning Specifications.
- Manage both onsite and offsite commissioning activities, including:
- Help develop JLL project proposals in response to client RFPs
- Identify required team makeup for the project(s)
- Support management of project budgets and financials
- Manage the development, review and approval of L0-L6 commissioning test scripts and procedures
- Act as main point of contact to client for all aspects of commissioning related to the mechanical and controls and automations systems
- Provide day-to-day directions to the mechanical commissioning group, including mentoring junior personnel
- Act as JLL technical point of escalation throughout project duration for the mechanical and controls and automation equipment and systems
- Schedule, lead and document on-site and offsite project commissioning meetings.
- Possess detailed understanding of how to develop and execute seasonal/performance tests for mechanical cooling systems.
- Write or manage development of detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Methods-of-Procedures (MOPs).
- Strong proficiency in use of QA/QC and Cx software applications such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, CxAlloy, Facility Grid, and other industry standard QA/QC and Cx platforms.
- Willingness to travel overnight up to 30-40% to client sites across the USA and Canada. Travel durations typically do not exceed two-week durations
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the startup and commissioning of data center mechanical cooling and controls and automation systems, with minimum of 3 years acting as a mechanical commissioning lead (ideally for data center projects in excess of 25MWs)
- An ABET accredited engineering or technology degree is preferred but not required
- Ideally candidate will possess a Commissioning Professional certification from a recognized industry authority
- Prof Eng/PE and/or PMP designation is considered an asset but not required
- Knowledge and experience in testing Air- and water-cooled chillers, CRACs, CRAHs, RTUs, AHUs, BMS and BAS platforms, and integrated control systems
- Strong data management skills
- Strong team leadership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong proficiency in MS Project, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and organize multiple project schedule inputs/performance data into a master schedule platform and deliver project/program status reports as required to internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and report against contractor (and other third party) schedule updates
- Experience working in a engineering consultancy or owner organization is an asset
