Our Design Studio team in the Chicago office is seeking an Entry Level Mechanical Engineer. This role will support our engineering team in staying focused on our mission of delivering high‑quality projects.

Most duties will be performed in an office environment. dbHMS currently operates with both hybrid and remote‑only work policies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, and frequently is required to walk. The work typically requires the use of hands to type, handle or feel;
reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The typical week consists of five, eight‑hour shifts.
Occasional overnight travel may be required to our other locations.

Position OverviewDo more than just build! Our Mechanical Engineers execute the design of HVAC systems involved in building construction projects. In this position, we will rely on Mechanical Engineers to assist senior engineers on project‑related tasks while they learn and advance their skills. Typical responsibilities associated with this position include drafting, calculations, and designing system components under supervision. Candidates must be able to perform basic drafting, have a B.S. degree in a field related to Mechanical Engineering and possess a fundamental knowledge of HVAC systems.
This candidate will also assist senior engineers to complete calculations, studies reports and drawings.
- Operate BIM Software.
- Read and understand construction documents, floor plans and equipment details.
- Operate computer software such as Microsoft Office programs to perform engineering tasks.
- Assist in the design of HVAC systems under supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed.
- Perform load calculations under the supervision of a senior engineer.
- Minimum Education:
B.S. degree in a related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA. - Basic engineering or construction background.
Preferred Qualifications
- E.I.T.
- Completion of an Internship in an MEP Consulting firm.
- Ability to multi‑task by working on multiple overlapping projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to maintain professional, polite and prompt communication.
- Motivated self‑starter and fast learner committed to learning on the job and personal self‑development.
