Job Description
Job Purpose
The Project Manager, Warehouse Automation & Systems, is responsible for leading the deployment, commissioning and startup of large-scale automated warehouse solutions. This role works closely with automation vendors, system integrators and internal IT/OT and operations teams to deliver safe, reliable and scalable automation capabilities.
The ideal candidate brings firsthand experience with warehouse automation implementations, structured testing and commissioning cycles and Tier-1 Warehouse Management System (WMS) platforms particularly SAP EWM and their integration with Warehouse Control Systems (WCS). Experience rolling out maintenance and reliability programs is a plus.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Execution
- Lead coordination of installation sequencing with automation vendors and internal stakeholders
- Ensure systems and infrastructure readiness (power, networking, servers, interfaces)
- Monitor installation quality through inspections and punch‑list tracking
- Ensure completion of as‑built documentation and commissioning pre‑checks
- Facilitate cross‑functional coordination and issue resolution
- Ensure overall solution is in line with business requirements and design rates
- Provide regular leadership updates on progress, risks and mitigation
Testing, Commissioning & Performance Validation
- Support commissioning of ASRS, conveyors, shuttles and picking systems
- Support functional, safety and performance testing aligned with FEM standards
- Oversee unit, integration and performance test cycles
- Coordinate SAP EWM data migrations and validate WMS–WCS integrations
- Hold vendors accountable to performance and commissioning milestones
Operational Readiness & Handover
- Support transition from project to operations including SOP development, user training and operational walkthroughs
- Define ramp‑up, hyper‑care and stabilization plans
- Partner with resident maintenance teams to establish reliability management program and corresponding KPIs and dashboards
Systems & Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of Tier‑1 WMS platforms, especially SAP EWM
- Experience integrating WMS, WCS, PLCs and automation systems
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills in high‑automation, high‑availability warehouse environments
- Understanding of IT/OT networks, interface messaging frameworks and SCADA
- Ability to interpret technical documentation and throughput models
Expected Experience & Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field – Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred
- PMP or equivalent certification is a plus
- 5
-10+ years of warehouse automation or WMS/WCS project experience - Willingness to travel as required
Work Environment & Schedule
Role requires travel as needed. Additionally, this role requires 5 days/week with hybrid flexibility to work remote 2 days/week.
