This is a hands-on regulatory compliance role focused on ensuring RF-enabled radar systems meet FCC and related regulatory requirements. The role owns the process of proving that products perform exactly as claimed—both technically and legally.
The ideal candidate has experience taking equipment to external test labs (such as Underwriters Laboratories), managing FCC filings, and securing certification sign-off. This role can be filled by a highly experienced compliance engineer (20+ years) or someone earlier in their career with strong fundamentals and attention to detail.
Associates degree, technical background, or former military experience are all acceptable paths into this role.
Key Responsibilities- Own FCC compliance testing and certification for intentional radiators (Part 15, Part 87, Part 90).
- Plan and execute transmitter compliance testing, including:
- Bandwidth
- Frequency stability
- Spurious and harmonic emissions
- Manage unintentional radiator testing (radiated and conducted emissions).
- Coordinate compliance testing with third-party labs, including UL and FCC-recognized facilities.
- Prepare and submit FCC filings, exhibits, test reports, and certification documentation.
- Lead debug and root-cause analysis for failed or marginal test results.
- Drive corrective actions related to shielding, grounding, filtering, layout changes, firmware updates, or calibration tuning.
- Support environmental and qualification testing (e.g., MIL-STD-810), as required.
- Partner with RF, hardware, firmware, and mechanical engineering teams to build compliance into designs early.
- Prior experience in a regulatory or compliance engineering role.
- Experience across multiple FCC rule parts (15, 87, 90).
- Hands-on experience with FCC compliance and certification processes.
- Experience working with external test labs (e.g., UL) and regulatory bodies.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline.
- Ability to validate that system performance matches stated technical claims.
- Military background or experience working with regulated defense or aviation systems.
- Experience with radar, RF, or drone-based systems.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD environmental testing.
