Position: Senior Energy Consultant -- Renewable Engineering Experience

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement. You'll spend three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days

Overview

Sargent & Lundy is one of the largest and most experienced power industry engineering and consulting firms. In the Consulting Group, you will work on project teams that provide a wide variety of services, including:

  • Technical consulting and advisory services to power project developers for new utility‑scale solar, wind, gas, battery energy storage, and other projects
  • Independent engineering and due diligence services for lenders and investors to evaluate the financing of new power and infrastructure projects
  • Technical, economic, and market studies for grid operators, utilities, and research agencies
  • Planning studies and business case development for utilities, independent power producers, and government agencies
The Consulting Group supports ongoing growth in renewable energy, battery energy storage, and utility planning/advisory practice areas and works with clients across the United States and abroad. Responsibilities

The position requires a great deal of face‑to‑face interaction with power plant developers and owners as well as lenders and investors, during the execution of consulting services. The work environment is fast‑paced, dynamic, and interesting.

Qualifications

This role requires a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering (other engineering disciplines may be considered). A Master’s degree in an engineering discipline or business (e.g., MBA) is a plus.

In order to qualify, you must have ten or more years of experience in the power industry, including one or more of the following:

  • Design of utility‑scale solar, wind, and/or battery energy storage projects
  • Independent engineering and due diligence services for power projects
  • Power project development
  • Solar, wind, and/or battery energy storage construction management
  • Experience in project finance or financial modeling of power projects (plus)
  • Experience with owner’s engineering activities during power project execution (plus)

  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others
  • Project planning and leadership skills
AI & Automation at Sargent & Lundy
  • You are expected to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost‑effective designs
  • Leaders in these roles often direct automation and process‑improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked
  • Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI‑enabled engineering workflows
