Automation Engineer – Chicago, IL

BWAY Corporation, a subsidiary of Mauser Packaging Solutions, is a leading North American supplier of general line rigid containers.

We are seeking an Automation Engineer to design, program, and implement automation and control systems for production equipment. The role involves project planning, budget monitoring, and collaboration with maintenance and vendor teams.

• Design, program, and simulate automation and control systems for production equipment.
• Collect task data, create project schedules, track progress, and prepare status updates for installations and equipment improvements.
• Lead the development of NASP automation initiatives to reduce labor dependency.
• Develop testing plans, debug automation equipment, and apply engineering technology knowledge.
• Program, troubleshoot, and evaluate design for new equipment.
• Design engineering solutions to meet manufacturing requirements and maximize equipment quality and efficiency.
• Prepare project scopes, cost justifications, and AFE proposals for management approval.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time within budget by monitoring costs, scope, and schedules.
• Participate in engineering design reviews and conduct R&D for integration and testing of electronic and mechanical components and systems.
• Apply mechanical theory and testing procedures to layout, build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify developmental and production equipment.
• Work with maintenance to ensure preventive and predictive maintenance of equipment.
• Program software to configure automated systems and process control systems and maintain backup libraries for robotic, PLC, and instrumentation software.
• Evaluate, select, and coordinate with outside vendors for design, fabrication, and installation of automation systems.

Travel: up to 5 days per week to company locations such as Cincinnati, OH;
York, PA;
Homerville, GA;
Garland, TX;
Memphis, TN; and Mexico.

Salary: $136,552 – $145,000 (annual).

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Controls, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• Or 10 years of experience with hydraulics, robotics, electrical systems, and automation.
• Proficiency (10+ years) in MS Office, Visio, Inventor, AutoCAD, RSLogix 500/5000, Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs, industrial sensors, and pneumatic systems.
