Environmental Compliance, Safety Engineer
Join S&C as a Safety and Environmental Specialist on our Production and Facilities team. You will work with the corporate HSE team to support safety and environmental activities, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and providing technical guidance to leadership and team members.
Hours4:30 pm - 1:00 am, Monday-Friday, Onsite (2nd Shift)
CompensationEstimated annual base salary range: $73,920 - $97,885
. This role is also eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.
- Provide safety and environmental guidance and support for HSE programs, including Behavior Based Safety, Location Emergency Response Plan, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Ergonomics, Powered Industrial Vehicles, industrial air and noise monitoring, sustainability and waste management compliance, Department of Transportation, and applicable OSHA compliance.
- Refine existing programs and procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiency or eliminate their need, reviewing and updating policies and procedures as needed to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and corporate standards.
- Support team members by training on requirements and assisting the site to ensure compliance with HSE programs and initiatives.
- Track federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations and evaluate their effects on company operations.
- Interface with various stakeholders to meet assigned safety and environmental objectives and drive action items to completion.
- Establish and coordinate facility audits, inspections, and observations to ensure compliance with regulations; follow-up with operations to ensure corrective actions are completed and documented; conduct audits and perform systematic review and trend analysis of audit data.
- Prepare, calibrate, and use instrumentation to collect and analyze environmental and chemical samples and other monitoring as needed.
- Develop suitable safety and environmental training content and delivery modes, conduct gap assessments to identify competence needs, and provide training using a learning management system.
- Perform virtual and physical ergonomic assessments and recommendations using standard ergonomic analysis tools to improve operator efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Collaborate with cross-functional organizations to drive environmental initiatives, including waste reduction, reuse, recycling, resource conservation, and circularity efforts.
What you will need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental, mechanical/industrial/electrical engineering, chemistry, environmental science, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated high-level performance in safety and environmental functions with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple safety and environmental projects and assignments simultaneously and to approach technical objectives effectively.
- Proven ability to design and deliver training.
- Proficiency in incident investigation, risk assessment, root cause analysis, countermeasure development, and PDCA measures.
- Willingness to travel to other S&C locations within and outside the United States.
- Experience in chemical manufacturing or a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Experience in data analytics and correlation analysis.
- Ability to work flexible shifts as needed.
- Two to four years of experience as a safety and environmental professional or equivalent experience in an engineering and manufacturing environment.
- Periodic travel by car and/or airline to S&C locations and performing in‑person inspections and investigations in a variety of factory and office environments or attending off‑site seminars and training activities.
- Standing, extensive walking, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, handling, and exposure to hot or cold temperatures.
- Frequent use of computers and office equipment.
- Ability to travel occasionally and to work non‑traditional business hours as needed.
