Structural Project Engineer

Benesch is a growing, multi‑disciplined planning, engineering, and professional services firm that enhances infrastructure and communities across the country.

We are looking for a Structural Project Engineer in our Illinois division to work on complex projects in Chicago, IL.

Location:

Flexible work schedule—three days from the Chicago, IL office and two days remotely.

The Impact You Will Have
  • Prepare and review structural and geometric calculations for bridge rehabilitation and design projects.
  • Prepare and review finite element analysis models.
  • Prepare and review bridge load rating reports to DOT standards.
  • Prepare, compile and review plans, specifications, cost estimates and pay items in accordance with DOT standards.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned design calculation files and plans, assuring adequate independent QC reviews on that work.
  • Coordinate these tasks with the Project/Technical Manager.
What We Are Looking For
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required. M.S. in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or related discipline preferred.
  • PE License preferred.
  • SE License in Illinois or the ability and plan to obtain.
  • Minimum of 5 years of bridge inspection, analysis, load rating and/or design experience.
  • Successful completion of one or more of the following FHWA-NHI courses is preferred but not required:
    • Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges
    • Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
  • Experience working with IDOT, CDOT, ISTHA and/or Chicagoland local agencies preferred.
  • Strong communication and client relation skills.
  • Progressive experience with developing design drawings and utilizing Micro Station and/or AutoCAD.
  • Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to perform complex analysis and design.
  • Ability to assemble a complete design package for assigned elements or projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Compensation and Benefits

Illinois Pay Range: $104,000 – $124,000 USD annually. Total compensation may include base salary, overtime, and bonuses.
