Structural Engineer, Civil Engineering
As a Structural Engineer, you will be part of the Infrastructure – Transportation business practice in the US Central Sector, based in Chicago. You will work under the direct supervision of the Department Manager – Bridges & Structures, focusing on highway and railway related structures. Project types include new structures, rehabilitation of existing structures, and inspection and evaluation of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and railway facilities for clients such as IDOT, CDOT, WisDOT, Tollway, Metra, and CTA.
Responsibilities- Structural design for all project types, including complex bridges
- Schematic/geometric layout design of new structures
- Perform analysis and design calculations according to the applicable design codes; use computer programs as appropriate
- Conduct load rating analysis for bridges
- Prepare plan drawings and details, construction specifications and design calculations
- Conduct on‑site inspection, analysis and condition assessment of existing structures
- Construction phase engineering support including reviews of shop drawings and requests for information
- Assist project managers with scoping and budgeting for structural work and be responsible for quality assurance of deliverables
- MS in Civil Engineering – Structures track required.
- EIT certification required - on track to earn PE/SE.
- 4+ years progressively responsible relevant experience.
- Bridge Inspection experience, including NHI Course preferred but not required.
- Prior experience with complex bridge projects.
- Knowledge of bridge analysis, design and detailing as it pertains to IDOT, Tollway, CDOT, CTA, Metra, and local agencies and applicable design codes such as AASHTO and AREMA.
- Knowledge of structural analysis software including MDX, LARSA and RCPier preferred but not required.
- Proficient with Micro Station and AutoCAD preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
The salary range for this role is $95,000 to $120,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
