Position SummaryWe are looking for a Senior Hydraulic Modeler to join our team in Chicago, IL. In this role you will engage in a wide variety of project assignments serving municipal, federal, industrial, and other clients, working independently and collaboratively across the company. You will interface with our Market Solutions group, maintaining a strong presence in the Chicago office and at field sites.
Responsibilities- Develop, calibrate, and interpret water distribution, wastewater, and stormwater models.
- Use models to assess system performance and recommend improvements and enhancements.
- Evaluate, select, and apply advanced engineering and modeling standards.
- Use models for master planning and conceptual studies.
- Conduct sewer evaluation studies involving RDII analysis and flow‑monitoring program development.
- Perform water quality and transient modeling.
- Develop hydraulic profiles for water and wastewater treatment facilities, coordinating conveyance design for state‑of‑the‑art plants.
- Engage in programming, statistical analysis, and data research.
- Analyze, manage, and interpret data using ArcGIS software.
- Utilize project‑management skills to propose, plan, execute, monitor, and close projects effectively.
- Conduct technical writing and client presentations to communicate key messages simply and clearly.
- Participate in global technical communities of practice focused on collection system modeling, water distribution, wet‑weather management, stormwater, and system optimization.
- Perform QA/QC of models, reports, and deliverables.
- Prepare and deliver presentations at local and national professional organizations such as WEF, IWEA, CSWEA.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- 6+ years of professional experience in hydraulic modeling.
- In‑depth knowledge of modeling software (e.g., Info Works ICM, PCSWMM, EPA SWMM, EPANET).
- Understanding of hydraulic systems and model outputs.
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS.
- Strong teamwork and effective communication skills, both internally and externally.
- Active involvement in mentoring and professional development.
- Proficiency in writing and reviewing technical reports for clear communication.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with clients and geographically dispersed project staff via online platforms.
- Graduate degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois or ability to obtain via comity.
- Experience in conveyance and/or pump design.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python (for GIS scripting) and Visual Basic for Excel.
