Join SOM’s Year One Program as a Junior Designer - Structural Engineering. The program builds on the knowledge acquired during formal education, offering hands‑on experience with small dynamic studios while benefiting from the resources of a global organization. Candidates will support day‑to‑day project responsibilities, propose bold ideas, and work across interdisciplinary teams on worldwide architectural, engineering, and planning projects.
Position Responsibilities- Assist in preparation of solutions to general and engineering problems
- Check and coordinate details and dimensions under supervision
- Perform structural analysis and design under supervision
- Assist in preparation of design and construction documents
- Provide independent general drafting work relating to specific area of project
- Review shop drawing and product submittals for general conformance with the structural engineering documents
- Handle a reasonable workload to meet project task deadlines and commitments under regular direction from the supervisor
- Generate ideas under direction relative to the task in hand for review and selection by others
- Recent completion of B.S. in Civil Engineering or
B.Eng required;
Master’s degree in Structural Engineering a plus - Strong collaborative ability
- Limited experience in structural analysis, drafting, and design development
- Demonstrate general knowledge of materials, detailing and construction techniques related to structural engineering principles, and codes
- Exhibit initiative, problem solving, and a high attention to precision and accuracy at a task specific level
- Follow instructions on timelines of deliverables, seek guidance when needed, and appropriately escalated when necessary
- Effectively communicate internally through timely and appropriate written, oral, and visual means
- Possess basic knowledge of computational and FEM tools for daily use on project design
