Job Description & How to Apply Below

Amazon Web Services is seeking an Electrical Engineer to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We keep the cloud and ML/AI models running, supporting all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, collaborating across teams to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the best possible cost for our customers.

Engineers at Amazon work to design resilient, cost‑effective electrical distribution systems. We justify and communicate technical decisions to senior management and drive continuous advancements and improvements. You will have the ability to drive change and define/design the systems our customers rely on.

We offer a fast‑paced, exciting work environment that supports professional growth and continuous learning. At Amazon you will be responsible for working on multi‑million dollar designs that support a wide variety of customers. Great ideas are encouraged and supported.

We are looking for engineers with hands‑on electrical design experience, ability to take designs from concept through permissions and construction documents, define critical equipment specifications, approve submittals, directly support construction, and serve as a subject‑matter expert. Collaboration within internal groups and with external groups such as utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors is essential. Teamwork is absolutely required.

The position is based in Virginia. Travel to the head office in Seattle will be required (up to 20% of your time). Travel may also include international support.

We embrace our differences. Amazon is committed to a culture of inclusion, with affinity groups, benefit offerings, and learning experiences that foster diversity and equity.

Key job responsibilities
  • Data center electrical designs and collaboration with other disciplines to create a construction document set.
  • Creation of designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements and remain within budgetary requirements.
  • Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
  • Review and approval of equipment submittals.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to and during construction phases.
  • Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, providing engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup as needed.
  • Offer creative, out‑of‑the‑box solutions and have fun while doing so.
Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities, including data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
  • Experience in commissioning.
