Position: Mid-Level Energy Consultant -- Asset Management

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in‑office work 3 days per week.

Sargent & Lundy is one of the largest and most experienced power industry engineering and consulting firms. This position in the Consulting Group will require you to work on our project teams that advise utilities, developers, and investors to make informed decisions and actionable conclusions on asset management strategies in power generation, electric transmission & distribution facilities, and natural gas transmission, distribution, gathering & storage facilities.

You will work with multidisciplinary project teams to provide a variety of services, such as the following:

  • Assist in developing programs to identify asset risk and risk mitigation strategies with a goal to accomplish risk mitigation.
  • Develop multi‑year asset management plans incorporating all capital and expense activities for the lifecycle of the asset classes portfolio investment prioritization process.
  • Participate in annual and long‑term asset management plan development.
  • Perform risk assessments, gather data, and support the quantification of asset class performance.
  • Provide knowledge to customers on regulations and compliance requirements as they apply to the asset portfolios.
  • Provide rate‑case strategy support, including testimony preparation.
Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, chemical, and/or civil/structural engineering with 3+ years of relative experience. A master’s degree in an engineering discipline or business (e.g., MBA) is a plus.

Required Experience
  • Technical report writing.
  • Multi‑discipline teamwork (e.g., design projects, co‑ops).
  • Data analysis and visualization.
  • Project finance or business acumen.
  • Conceptual project design.
  • Experience working on pipeline integrity risk assessments, power or transmission projects is considered.
Also Important Are

  • Project planning, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Decision making and judgment.
  • Working knowledge of API RP 1173:
    Pipeline SMS (Safety Management Systems).
  • Experience in tariffs, rate, or regulatory matters.
  • Prior experience in the natural gas or electric industry is desirable.

  • Take engineering problems from issue to solution using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost‑effective designs.
  • Build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, including the appropriate use of agentic AI tools with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields to apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems, is also valued.

Compensation Range

$74,353 - $113,595
