Job Title

BIM Designer

Job Description

The BIM Designer supports the development and implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) strategies for design, prefabrication, and field installation across a variety of construction projects. This role focuses on advanced 3D modeling, clash detection, and coordination with multiple trades to achieve a high Level of Design (LOD 500). The BIM Designer collaborates closely with project managers, field personnel, and the BIM leadership team to ensure accurate, constructible models and shop drawings that drive efficient fabrication and installation.

This position also contributes to continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned and helping refine BIM standards and processes.

Responsibilities
  • Help the BIM Manager develop and refine strategies to integrate BIM modeling into design, prefabrication, and field operations.
  • Analyze project BIM requirements early in the process and identify effective strategies for successful BIM and detailing implementation.
  • Model and coordinate projects at a 500 Level of Design (LOD), ensuring accurate and constructible detail.
  • Model and coordinate with other trades to confirm routings, clearances, and system layouts so that no obstructions exist.
  • Review and resolve clashes with other trades using BIM tools and participate actively in coordination meetings.
  • Work closely with the BIM Manager and Project Managers to resolve issues identified during coordination meetings.
  • Follow established BIM standards and project-specific implementation plans to maintain consistency and quality across deliverables.
  • Work with field personnel on site to perform site surveys and field measurements as needed to support conceptual and design drawing efforts.
  • Create and revise submittal documents, shop drawings, and related construction documents to support fabrication and installation.
  • Use Autodesk software and applicable third-party tools to produce accurate models and coordinated drawings.
  • Coordinate drawings and collaborate with assigned Project Managers, vendors, engineers, and field personnel to ensure alignment and constructability.
  • Identify BIM lessons learned from projects and participate in internal educational meetings to share knowledge and improve departmental practices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the efficient and effective completion of projects.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience within the construction industry.
  • Hands‑on experience with Revit for BIM modeling and construction documentation.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for drafting and detailing.
  • Experience using Navisworks for clash detection and model coordination.
  • Understanding of BIM processes, standards, and Level of Design (LOD), including modeling at LOD 500.
  • Experience working on electrical and construction projects, including underground and above‑ground electrical work.
  • Ability to interpret and produce construction documents and shop drawings.
  • Strong coordination skills to work with multiple trades and stakeholders on complex projects.
  • Ability to conduct or support field measurement and site survey work to validate and inform models.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
