Your impactConduct daily civil, roadway, and structural field inspections to ensure contractor compliance with contract documents, safety standards, and agency specifications (IDOT, CDOT, Illinois Tollway, and CTA). Perform structural bridge inspections, including work involving post‑tensioning systems; prior experience with post‑tensioning systems is required. Inspect roadway construction activities, including subgrade preparation, embankment placement, and pavement installation, in accordance with IDOT standards; apply field testing methods such as moisture content, density calculations, and cone penetrometer readings.
Inspect transit station construction, including coordination and installation of elevators, escalators, and low‑voltage systems. Lead construction progress meetings with clients, contractors, and stakeholders; coordinate with public agencies and utility companies. Prepare and reconcile contractor pay estimates; review Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs), verify calculations, and document quantities electronically. Maintain accurate records of quantities in the quantity book; verify audit requirements are met and support the Resident Engineer during audits.
Review contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, QC checklists, and material certifications for technical compliance. Prepare daily construction reports detailing contractor workforce, equipment, activities, site visitors, and include daily progress photos. Prepare regular status reports and maintain current and accurate record drawings.
Job duties are project‑based and performed on long‑term assignments within the state of Illinois.
RequirementsREQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management or related field and 5 years of work experience in the job offered or related occupation in transit, roadway, and/or bridge construction engineering.

Inspecting train transit station construction, including coordination and installation of elevators, escalators, and low‑voltage systems. Bridge and structural construction, including segmental bridge methods (e.g., post‑tensioning and tendon stressing), as well as MSE walls, box culverts, and other structural systems used in roadway and transit infrastructure projects. Bluebeam, eBuilder. Illinois Tollway Central Engineering Payment System (CEPS). Illinois DOT Construction & Materials Management System (CMMS).
Construction Manager in Training (CMIT). Certifications in Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA).

The base salary range for this position is $96,366.00 to $. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
