What We're Looking For

At HNTB, you can create a career that is meaningful to you while building communities that matter to all of us. For more than a century, we have been delivering solutions for some of the largest, most complex infrastructure projects across the country. With our historic growth, it is an exciting time to join our team of employee‑owners.

We are seeking an experienced Complete Streets planner to oversee the planning, design, and implementation of Complete Streets projects in dense urban areas. This is a practice‑building position that will involve both project work and marketing/business development to grow the business across the firm and specifically in the local office.

This position directs the technical production of planning assignments as task assignee and may also serve as a Project Manager on medium and large‑scale projects. Coordinates with project manager, project designer and other disciplines on multiple large scale and complex transportation planning, urban design, or landscape architectural projects to ensure that the client’s technical requirements of projects are fully met.

Understanding of planning principles, complete streets design principles, stakeholder engagement strategies, and risk mitigation strategies is a must. This is an implementation‑focused role; incumbent will be advising clients on not only what to do but how to get it done, including fostering public support.

What You’ll Do
  • Under minimal direction, perform a variety of more highly complex professional planning, environmental planning, landscape architecture and urban design project responsibilities, and lead technical tasks.
  • Write and/or review major sections of and lead production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for projects. Coordinate and synthesize the contributions of others.
  • Lead, prepare, and review graphics, technical reports, work plans, scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to Request for Proposals for projects. Prepare and review budgets, invoicing, and billing.
  • Lead public and stakeholder engagement and present information to the community.
  • Provide guidance and mentor staff.
  • Lead coordination with clients, sub‑consultants, and in‑house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
  • Recommend process and system improvements that result in greater efficiencies, enhanced capacities, and improved service delivery.
  • Support department managers and office leadership with strategic planning, staffing/training, and other special projects.
  • May serve as project manager or task lead.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography, or related field and 10 years related experience, or
  • Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography, or related field and 9 years of relevant experience
What You’ll Bring
  • Oversee big‑picture strategy as well as on‑the‑ground plan production and project implementation activities.
  • Provide consultation on research approaches, evaluation methodologies, and conclusions to make recommendations to less experienced staff or clients.
  • Oversee the preparation of technical documents and reports; provide consultation on structure and content, including conducting quality reviews. Present and defend reports to audiences, clients, and members of the public.
  • Manage client meetings and oversee preparation or meeting materials without oversight from others.
What We Prefer
  • Master’s degree in Urban Planning or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Envision, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP)
