Structural Engineer

Building Structural Engineer – Chicago, IL

HDR’s Building Engineering Services Business Group is seeking a licensed structural engineer to produce design drawings, calculations, and specifications for a variety of commercial and institutional building projects.

• Review structural documents for conflicts with all disciplines.
• Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials, and sizes, and complete necessary calculations.
• Coordinate the structural design team through design development and contract document phases.
• Schedule and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
• Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at the project site with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
• Manage workload through design development and construction document phases to meet project schedules.
• Coordinate and assist affected disciplines with addenda, requests for information, change proposals, and change orders.
• Perform other duties as needed.

• Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering with Structural emphasis or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience designing structural systems for commercial or institutional buildings.
• Experience or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required.
• Proficiency in Revit highly valued.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Professional engineering license (PE or equivalent) recognized by the Illinois licensing board.
• Previous experience with an architectural engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• Commitment to active participation in an employee‑owned culture.
