Building Structural Engineer – Chicago, IL
HDR’s Building Engineering Services Business Group is seeking a licensed structural engineer to produce design drawings, calculations, and specifications for a variety of commercial and institutional building projects.
Responsibilities- Review structural documents for conflicts with all disciplines.
- Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials, and sizes, and complete necessary calculations.
- Coordinate the structural design team through design development and contract document phases.
- Schedule and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
- Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at the project site with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
- Manage workload through design development and construction document phases to meet project schedules.
- Coordinate and assist affected disciplines with addenda, requests for information, change proposals, and change orders.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering with Structural emphasis or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience designing structural systems for commercial or institutional buildings.
- Experience or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required.
- Proficiency in Revit highly valued.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional engineering license (PE or equivalent) recognized by the Illinois licensing board.
- Previous experience with an architectural engineering or engineering consulting firm.
- Commitment to active participation in an employee‑owned culture.
Full‑time, regular employee status.
