Manager – Data Center OperationsDay Shift 6:00 am – 2:30 pm, Monday–Friday
The Manager – Data Center Operations is responsible for the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of electrical, mechanical, fire‑life‑safety, and communications infrastructure. The role includes vendor and project management, commissioning, energy efficiency, training, budgeting, and people management.
Duties- Serve as the data center subject matter expert for electrical, mechanical, and fire‑life‑safety systems.
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems.
- Track and trend site efficiencies and energy consumption.
- Analyze operating conditions and recommend technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Manage shift assignments, work time, and approvals for direct reports.
- Train and mentor junior staff; develop training programs.
- Work with technicians and vendors to meet preventive maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate maintenance requirements with the Senior Manager.
- Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, procurement, and billing.
- Prepare site budgeting and forecasting for Cap Ex and OpEx.
- Develop detailed technical procedures for maintenance, emergency, and evolution events.
- Review procedures, company standards, and policies with technical rigor.
- Lead internal and external audits; ensure compliance standards are met.
- Maintain systems to avoid unplanned, customer‑impacting outages.
- Manage cooling system capacity and mechanical loading.
- Provide mechanical and integrated control expertise across the data center.
- Utilize CMMS system for maintenance planning.
- Ensure SLA compliance and timely data upload to OSS.
- Provide exceptional daily customer service and support.
- Be available on‑call to respond to emergencies.
- Promote Core Site’s Principles of Operational Excellence and culture.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
Knowledge
- Expert understanding of electrical and mechanical data‑center systems (distribution, transformers, PLCs, generators, UPS, chilled water, CRAC/CRAH, sprinkler systems).
- Expert knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, fire‑life‑safety codes, and industrial safety best practices.
- Expert knowledge of fiber optics, cabling infrastructure, and industry best practices.
- Expert knowledge of energy‑efficiency best practices.
- Proficiency in commissioning electrical, mechanical, protection, and controls systems.
Skills
- 5–7 years experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems.
- Experience managing chilled water, HVAC, pumps, generators, UPS, and sprinkler systems.
- People‑management experience with proven leadership skills.
- Vendor management and service contract experience.
- Project management skills – budgeting, time tracking, scheduling, scope development, contract management.
- Facility budgeting and forecasting expertise.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Abilities
- Effective communication with customers, staff, and contractors.
- Quick learning and problem‑solving.
- Multi‑task across projects.
- Operate hand and power tools; use electrical tools such as multimeters and infrared cameras.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- 7+ years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities (data‑center, hospital, or power plant preferred).
- 3–5 years administering and managing preventative maintenance programs and budgets.
- 3–5 years of vendor and project management.
- 3–5 years of technical procedure and policy writing.
- 3–5 years of people management experience.
- Pass background check, including criminal, reference, education, DMV, and credit verification.
